The Eye Clinic & Laser Institute has been servicing the Space Coast with comprehensive, quality eye care services since opening our doors in 1980. In 1985, the head office was established in the present location on Merritt Island. Soon after, we branched out to Titusville and Port St. John. Next, we opened offices in Melbourne, Palm Bay and Viera Suntree. Currently, we have four offices throughout Brevard County located in Merritt Island, Port St. John, Suntree, and Melbourne. Mukesh C. Aggarwal, MD founded the Eye Clinic and Laser Institute in 1980. Dr. Aggarwal is a Board Certified member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He specializes in general ophthalmology as well as cataract, Lasik, and glaucoma surgery. He has a special interest in medical retina treatments for diabetes and macular degeneration.

My medical training includes graduating from the Institute of Medical Science and then serving a one year rotating internship at Philadelphia Hospital. I then completed a two-year internal medicine residency and three years of residency in ophthalmology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. I continue my medical education each year through course work and seminars. This is a great deal of hard work, but worth all of the effort to be able to provide to my patients the latest technology in the eye care field!

Upon completion of resident training in the latest technology, I relocated to Merritt Island where I began my practice in 1980. My initial attraction to this area was the quality of life the community offered. Nearly 40 years later I am still a proud resident. I have raised two bright and beautiful girls and we share a similar passion – giving back to others. With the support of our extended family here in Brevard county, we are able to give back to others not only locally but also throughout the country.

Whenever I receive the opportunity I enjoy traveling abroad and offering my services in Charitable Medical Missions. In my free time with my family, I enjoy playing a friendly game of tennis with my girls. (But I think they usually let me win!) As often as we can, the entire family enjoys snow skiing and traveling throughout the United States. However, no matter where we go, it’s always best to come home.

Having developed nearsightedness at an early age, I became interested in the way an eye exam is conducted. Come to think of it, the minute I walked into an eye exam room at age six, I felt at home. Perhaps it was because I wasn’t made to sit alone and undressed. Or that I knew I wasn’t going to be subjected to yet another vaccination.

Upon reflection, it was actually my curiosity about the equipment used to examine my eyes. I especially liked the one that made the letters come into focus by saying “one” or “two”. It was like magic…. and I was the magician!

Fast forward to medical school where the first thing I did after finishing my first year was to arrange a summer eye research fellowship. A leave of absence between years three and four to complete further research followed. Upon securing my Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Illinois, I was accepted into a residency program at the prestigious Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago.

My intention was to continue training after completing my residency in order to specialize in vitreoretinal surgery, but family obligations necessitated finding a job. My then wife’s family lived in Northern Virginia, so off we went.

I practiced in Virginia for many years, but ultimately found that I needed to take some time off after my marriage dissolved. Upon resumption of practice in Chicago, I met up with and became part of a group of avid windsurfers. But because you can’t windsurf in January in Chicago, and having elderly parents who resided in Florida, I decided to relocate again; this time to the Sunshine state.

William E. Shaw, Jr. MD has over twenty-five years of experience as a general ophthalmologist, and has performed over a thousand intra and extra-ocular procedures, including strabismus surgery, cataract extraction, glaucoma filtering surgery, LASIK, and eyelid procedures. He is also adept at laser, periocular, and intravitreal treatments. In addition, he has eagerly worked side-by-side with his optometric colleagues in order to promote optimal patient outcomes.
