Pinguecula

Pinguecula

A Pinguecula is a growth on your eye's conjunctiva (the clear tissue covering the white part of your eye).

A Pinguecula is a growth that looks like a yellow spot or bump on the conjunctiva. It is a deposit of protein, fat, or calcium.

Pinguecula's are believed to be caused by having dry eyes or from exposure to wind, dust, or ultraviolet(UV) light from the sun.

In most cases, you do not need to be treated. However, if your eyes are uncomfortable or your vision is affected, you may need to be treated.

Eye drops can be prescribed to lubricate your eyes to help relieve dryness. If swelling occurs in your eye, your Ophthalmologist will prescribe steroid eye drops or anti-inflammatory drugs.
