Astigmatism

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a rather common condition causing blurred vision. In a healthy eye, the cornea is round like a baseball. Astigmatism happens when the cornea is shaped more like a football. When light passes through the cornea with Astigmatism, the image does not focus on the retina, causing blurred vision.

Eyeglasses or contact lenses can correct almost all causes of Astigmatism.

For more severe cases, LASIK and PRK surgery can change the shape of your cornea and solve your vision loss issues.

For people with Astigmatism and Cataracts, surgery is available to correct both issues at once! Your eye surgeon may recommend a toric IOL that replaces the eye's natural lens, and helps correct astigmatism at the same time.
